Email accounts
If you ask art71 to run your website, you can have email configured with the same name as your website such as your.name@your-domain.com. Please note that art71 is a Web-based business and while we can set up email for you, if you are not computer-literate you will need to employ an IT expert to configure your office computers to retrieve your emails. Art71 is not able to supply IT support for your office computers.
Art71 can offer the following options for emails sent to your website name:
- Forwarding of emails to another email address of your choice. Please simply let us know where you would like the mail to be delivered. Please be aware that some Mail Providers will not deliver these forwarded mails, in particular AOL, Hotmail and Yahoo! accounts. You must regularly test these emails and choose another option as soon as your Mail Provider fails to deliver forwarded mails. But, for example, mail for your.name@your-domain.com can be forwarded to your.name@your-internet-service-provider.com
- Web-based retrieval of mails from webmail. Please ask us to create web-based mail. You will be able to retrieve your messages from any online computer at http://webmail.your-domain.com/ using your email address and password supplied by art71. More on WebMail
- Retrieval of mail using your office computer mail client. We can supply you with the login information so you can use Outlook Express, Thunderbird or another mail client to retrieve your emails. Links to instructions are further down this page. Please remember that art71 is a Web-based business so if you are not sure how to configure your computers you will need an IT expert to visit your office.
- Network retrievel of mail on office-based mail server. If you have a networked office computer system with more than 2 users, we strongly urge you to invest in a mail server in-house with a competent IT professional to help you manage the mail accounts. We are happy to change the MX and A records which control delivery of mail at your domain so they are delivered straight to your office mail server. Please ask your IT technical adviser to contact us direct so we can re-configure the mail records for your web domain.
How to retrieve your emails using a mail client such as Outlook Express or Thunderbird
Further down this page are instructions for Microsoft Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird. However, even if you use another email software, the configuration is fairly simple to set up. In the example which follows, the email address is your-name@your-domain.com and the website name is www.your-domain.com
The settings will be similar for any other email software on both PC's and Macs. The important settings to understand are:
- The account name is always your full email address, for example
your-name@your-domain.com
- The outgoing and incoming mail server are always in the format
mail.your-domain.com
- The options for secure PASSWORD authentication should NOT BE selected.
- The options for secure SERVER authentication should always be selected and set to use the same settings as your incoming mail server.
- Once you have set up your mail and tested the settings you may get an SMTP error message from your Internet Service Provider. Please read the error message carefully and edit the SMTP outgoing mail server as per their instructions. The instructions below include a section on how to modify the settings of your mail account.

How to retrieve your emails using a Blackberry or other mobile device
All mail accounts on art71's server should synch fine with Blackberry and other mobile devices. On a Blackberry select Device setup and then Email Setup and Add an email address. You will only need your full email address and password. You must though make sure you have activated your Blackberry with your phone provider to allow you to receive data through the handset. If in doubt phone Tech Support for your network provider.
But I have Windows Vista !
If you've just received your shiny new Vista computer, one of the first things you may notice is that there is no Outlook Express. Don't panic! You still have email - only it's called Windows Mail. You will find the program on the Programs menu of the Start button. Once you open Mail all you need to do is to set up your email account and you'll be getting emails before you can say 'Jack Robinson' or 'Mr Bean'. You'll be pleased to know that most of the account setting up procedure is the same as for Outlook Express so please refer to these instructions:
The following are instructions for Microsoft Outlook Express users
To get your email, either press the function key F5, or click on the Send and Receive button on the top menu bar. The Windows Mail program works in exactly the same way as Outlook Express. Enjoy!
